Futureproof is a series of provocations illustrating possible futures for technology and culture. Think postcards from the future.

What does your future look like?

About the Series

Futurecasting is a creative activity through which designers consider various social, cultural, economic, political, and ecological factors and envision possible futures. Preferable futures align technology with human needs and business cases that are sustainable from a planetary perspective. Envisioning preferable futures inspires deeper thinking regarding what must be done to make our collective preferred futures possible.

Futureproof: Postcards From the Future Series Entries

Methodology

Frameworks, including the Futures Cone created by Joseph Voros and other ideation methods, have informed the Futureproof series. The goal is to help think optimistically about the future and invite people to participate actively in shaping preferred futures. Problems and potential solutions can be identified by backcasting or working backward from the desirable future to the present to determine the feasibility of the idea or project. The visualization part of the series is an exploration involving integrating AI tools into the creative process. This is a core element of the series. Visual storytelling and a written narrative evolve organically as each entry takes shape. Again, the series aims to envision preferable futures and inspire deeper thinking regarding what must be done to make our collective preferred futures possible.
