Mercedes-Benz S-Class UI Sprint
Redefining Luxury.

Visualizing Vehicle Interface Design Approaches for an Expansive Display Layout

This rapid visualization sprint extended the capabilities of the Mercedes-Benz design team, enabling exploration of a broader range of user interface aesthetics than initially envisioned. The goal was to craft seamless, intuitive in-car experiences that reflect the brand’s values of luxury, innovation, and emotional resonance.

Several interface directions were developed to express personalization, purpose, vitality, and restraint. One concept, Folds, organizes telemetry and diagnostics on the left and configurable comfort settings on the right, using customizable horizontal modules that allow users to expand content without losing sight of essential information. This structure maintained continuous visibility of key data, supporting multitasking and real-time awareness. Another direction, Layered, provided glanceable information on the left while organizing deeper interactions on the right. The persistent display of key metrics, combined with intuitive visual elements—such as a vehicle graphic that instantly shows which lights are active—enhanced situational clarity and user control. The Depth of Field concept embraced a visual language reminiscent of mobile apps, using smart focus, minimal distractions, and spacious layouts to prioritize what matters most. This approach created a calm, tablet-like experience that felt familiar yet elevated, allowing users to stay centered and in control.
