A Cabin in the Trees

Kariouk Architects created a remarkable lakeside cabin in the sky for owners in the province of Quebec. Innovative use of materials, including low-waste Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) and unique structural angles of support, are signature elements of the structure.

Living off-grid entirely is possible with passive and active solar accommodations and minimal solar panel and battery accommodation. A high-efficiency wood stove and backup propane heater provide emergency backup if needed, as the site is remote. Minimal foundation pads limit the amount of concrete used for the home’s foundation, furthering the sustainable aspects of the overall design.
